What is Breast Implant Surgery?

Breast implant surgery involves implants helping to enlarge and contour the breasts by placing them underneath the target area. There are different forms of implant that this can depend on how much bigger you would like your breasts to appear. Other reasons for breast implant choices may be your breast anatomy, body type or skin elasticity.

Dr Niro usually recommend round implants, and this is the consensus amongst many doctors and surgeons. The alternative is “teardrop” implants, and these may be preferable if you are taller with a narrow build; however, a consultation will determine which may be best for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Breast Implant Surgery painful?
Breast implant surgery is conducted under general anaesthetic and should not be painful during the procedure. After this period, you may experience some discomfort, most of which usually lasts up to 2 weeks. After a period of 6 weeks, you should be able to return to all forms of activity.
What are important considerations before Breast Implant Surgery?
During you consultation, Dr Niro will discuss with you the best way to achieve your desired outcome. In order to do so, it is vital that we consider some factors. Some of these factors may include:
  • Breast volume
  • Breast position
  • Skin elasticity and thickness
  • The appearance of the torso
  • Lifestyle elements
  • Your patience for downtime
Should I have to change my breast implants every few years?
As long as there are no medical problems with your breast implants and you are happy with them, there should be no reason to change them every few years. Breast implants usually last around 10-15 years and some may last up to 20. If you have a problem with your breast implants, Dr Niro will be happy to arrange a breast implant removal or breast implant replacement surgery.
