What is Inverted Nipple Correction Surgery?

The correction of inverted nipples is a simple surgical procedure that can be conducted for both men and women who suffer from flat or inverted nipples. Around 10-20% of women have inverted or flat nipples to some extent, so it is not surprising that inverted nipple correct procedures are one of our most common surgeries. Dr Niro uses the latest techniques and advances in inverted nipple correction to complete the procedure in roughly one hour and is conducted under local anaesthetic.

Inverted nipples are usually the result of a pull of connective tissue behind the nipple forcing it inwards, as opposed to naturally allowing the nipple to protrude outwards. Additionally, inverted nipples could occur due to excessive tightening on the breast ducts or an excessive amount of connective tissue in the nipple itself. Furthermore, inverted nipples have been known to occur due to a rapid loss of weight.

Whether your reason for desiring inverted nipple correction is due to lack of confidence or a breastfeeding issue, Dr Niro is always happy to address your problems. With inverted nipple correction now considered a simple procedure, no one should have to put up with discomfort.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can inverted nipples affect breastfeeding?
In extreme cases, breastfeeding can be affected by inverted nipples. This is due to the baby finding it harder to attach themselves to the nipple. Additionally, the nipple may be pointing in a direction in which it cannot release milk forwards. This can become a serious difficulty for breastfeeding.
Are there different types of inverted nipples?
There are 4 main types of inverted nipples. These include:
  • Flat nipples – These do not protrude out like typical nipples and tend to blend into the areola.
  • Inverted nipple grade 1 – Grade 1 inverted nipples can occasionally become evert when stimulated with temperature or arousal.
  • Inverted nipple grade 2 – This type of nipple may be pulled out; however, it can be difficult to do so.
  • Inverted nipple grade 3 – This is the most severe of the 4 and is completely retracted and unable to be pulled out.
How long does it take to see results?
After your procedure you may be able to resume sexual activity after roughly 4-6 weeks; however, the final results of your inverted nipple correction surgery should be seen between 6-12 weeks.
