Dr. Niro completed his bachelor’s and medical degrees from King’s College London and University College London, respectively, and worked across a variety of surgical specialities. What is Scalp Reduction Surgery?

There are various scales of scalp reduction. To perform a small scalp reduction, it may be possible under local anaesthetic. This procedure offer involves surgically removing a 2-5cm strip of skin and restitching the scalp back together. By conducting this surgical procedure a few times, we may be able to curb the loss of hair.

Larger scalp reductions are also possible. This procedure is usually conducted under general anaesthetic and can work in tandem with a hair transplant as a secondary part of the surgery.

Should I get a scalp reduction?
It may not be for everyone to get a scalp reduction; however, to determine whether it is right for you, we may have to consider some factors. These may include how healthy your scalp, your scalp elasticity, your amount of donor hairs, your age, and your genetics.
Does scalp reduction give natural-looking fuller hair?
By using your own donor hair from fuller parts of your scalp, it may be possible to produce a much more natural-looking hair appearance. As we have used hair from your own scalp, it will be a perfect match and should blend into your hair seamlessly.
Does your hair fall out after scalp reduction?
Temporarily after your procedure, you may experience hair falling out. This is usually nothing to worry about and should only last around 6 weeks. After this period, you should start to see hair growth again after another 6 weeks.
